Erik took his first steps in the musical world at the age of 7 by playing the organ. After three years, he developed a deep love for the piano, and until the age of 16, he underwent intensive classical training. At that point, his musical journey took a turn towards jazz and pop. He formally studied music at the Brabants Conservatorium, followed by the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Driven by his passion for jazz piano, he took lessons from the renowned Rob van Bavel, while also perfecting his skills in classical piano under the guidance of Albert Brussee. After graduating, Erik entered the music scene as a keyboardist, showcasing his versatility by collaborating with various artists such as Jim, Hind, Alain Clark, and Wende Snijders. He shared his musicianship with different bands and groups. Currently, he serves as the keyboardist for bands like Abel and Jelle Amersfoort, lending his versatile skills as a session musician to various projects.
From 2000 to 2022, Erik served as a piano teacher at the music school ‘Nieuwe Veste’ in Breda. In 2017, he took the initiative and established his own teaching practice, PianoStudioBreda, where he shares his knowledge and passion for music with enthusiastic students. Unafraid to explore new horizons, Erik has recently expanded his skills to the Harpejji, a remarkable string instrument with a keyboard layout. This artistic discovery reflects his ongoing quest for musical innovation and expression.
